La Bula WWF Oasis

This oasis, established in 1990, is in the southern outskirts of the city of Asti, namely in Boana, along the Tanaro River.
Today, this 50-acre area is part now of a naturalistic project aimed at restoring the original river environment: this oasis, in fact, featured quarries for inert materials, as well as waste disposal sites in the past; unfortunately, it also witnessed some illegal activities.
The recovery interventions have been thoroughly planned by a team of engineers, architects, forestry specialists and naturalists. Eventually, the restoration of the natural balance actually began with the regularization of the quarry activities, which are now only allowed in a restricted part of the territory.
The introduction of native tree species is still helping the spontaneous return of animal species.
On the old specimens of Populus spp. and Salix spp., there now several species of nesting birds, including grey herons, great white herons, rare red herons, moorhens, kingfishers and marsh harriers.
Reptiles and amphibians include green whip snakes, grass snakes, green frogs, crested newts, and many invertebrates.
Being adjacent to the city makes La Bula an oasis with a strong didactic vocation.
Several paths and observation spots have been painstakingly created and inserted, in order not to disturb the local precious fauna.
