Lake Idro is in the Giudicarie Valleys, between Lake Garda and Lake Iseo; it stretches to the provinces of Trento and Brescia. Due to the surrounding thick woods and green mountains, as well as its clear waters, this is a very popular place and a true natural pearl in Northern Italy.
It looks quite small on the map, but it actually stretches over some 12 km, with a maximum width of 2 km. Its maximum depth reaches 400 ft. All in all, Lake Idro is a wonderful body of water nestled among tall mountains in a privileged position.
The lake is of glacial origin and the Chiese River is both its tributary and emissary. Lake Idro is a popular destination for water sports such as swimming, canoeing, sailing, and surfing.
Thanks to the pleasant water temperatures in the summer, around 24 C°, people can swim here until September.
Both flora and fauna are very rich and variegated: Lake Idro offers the perfect habitat to several species of fish, such as perch. From the top of the surrounding mountains, visitors can enjoy some spectacular views of this most unique and evocative landscape.
