Lu Cantaru Park

This park is part of the Lu Cantaru agricultural estate, not far away from it. The Park is a place of history and culture, covering more than 74 acres of wood, where strawberry trees, heather, myrtle, cistus and elm leaf blackberry prevail, framing the suggestive rock wall of schist and quartz; the latter is the oldest geological formation in Sardinia – together with the area of Mount Forte and Rocca della Bagassa – along with the territory of Sulcis Iglesiente.

Its lines would make your imagination run wild, looking like ancient faces and animal shapes such as the now well-known “lion”, “the guardian”, “the elephant”, and several other fascinating rock formations. Along the path that leads to its feet, the waterfall comes to life in the rainy season, offering ancestral sights: the water that hits the stones inevitably stirs one’s soul to freely wander to the rhythm of pure magic.

The local fauna thrives in this pristine oasis, including ravens, buzzards, peregrine falcons, partridges, barn owls, wild boars, foxes and hares; there are also weasels, fallow deer, and “marginata” tortoises, typical of Sardinia.

The Park projects

Lu Cantaru Park is soon to be made accessible to all those who’d like to live and breath it, mingling with the local fauna, the wondrous flora and the geological magic.

To do so, the existing refreshment areas will soon be renovated, while many attractions will be specifically designed for the visitors, including excursions, meditation, yoga and reiki facilities.

The park will also host concerts, art exhibitions, writing, painting, sculpture, photography, theatre, and dance events. Not to mention stargazing opportunities, camping facilities and several projects aimed at the children, like a “treasure hunt” based on the stimulation of care and respect for oneself and nature. Last but not least, the“Antoni Nigora” fountain will be painstakingly restored: the true protagonist of a story about a man who escaped a fire by jumping into it.
