M.A.C.A.M. – “Open-air Museum of Contemporary Art in Maglione”

MACAM museum was established in 1985, thanks to a private citizen – Maurizio Corgnati – a writer, director, “country philosopher”, and a true connoisseur of cuisine and arts.
The first abstract works were actually created on the walls of the houses of Corgnati’s childhood friends, who, however, then threatened to paint the whole buildings. Corgnati was not discouraged and was able to make people understand the importance and value of such intriguing “street art”. Therefore, thanks also to the arrival of tourists and journalists interested in the event, curiosity replaced mistrust and many residents offered their homes (even money on some cases), in order to host the work of an artist. The painters, on the other hand, gathered enthusiastically, mostly attracted by Corgnati’s cuisine, rather than cash. Many important artists like Ugo Nespolo, Gia Pomodoro, and Armando Testa simply loved this rather peculiar compensation “devoid of any commercial implications and based exclusively on true love for art and friendship”.
Corgnati was thus able to create his public exhibition, letting artists rediscover the authentic pleasures of their profession.
