Pink Apple

The “Pink Apple”, also known as “Pianella”, “Rosetta”, “Durella”, and “Appietta”, is a traditional variety found in the foothills of central Italy but the most widespread biotope is certainly that of the pre-Apennine area of the Sibillini Mountains – it is commonly known as “Mela Rosa Marchigiana”.

In the past, it was always included in the family orchards at altitudes between 1.476 and 2.952 ft. The typical “Pink Apple” is easily recognizable as it features a medium-small, irregular fruit, with an asymmetrical flattened shape; moreover, the peduncle is generally very short, the skin is smooth – of medium thickness – featuring an intense green or wine-red colour with localized russeting in the peduncular area. The pulp is white, translucent, firm, crunchy, with an acidulous sugary flavour.

This variety is also very resistant to parasites, insects and diseases, thanks to the particular geographical location of its production – and the related climate, and its own genetic features.
