Miramare Marine Nature Reserve Oasis is located in the Gulf of Trieste and winds around the promontory of Miramare and its famous castle.

Established in 1986, it covers an area of 74 acres, 218-yard wide and stretching along 1.8 km of coastline; it is surrounded by another important area, of some 222 acres, which adds 437 yards to the total width – partially protected and where professional fishing is not allowed.

Local flora includes the following species: green seaweed (Acetabularia acetabulum), bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus), peacock’s tail (Padina pavonia), and sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca).

Different environments like the tidal zone, the reef area, the sandy and muddy bottoms, there are sponges, coelenterates, annelids, molluscs, crustaceans, echinoderms and bony fish.
