Camerine Wood Natural Oasis in the municipality of Albanella, in the province of Salerno. It borders with Cilento’s National Park– Vallo di Diano, and it has an extension of about 100 hectares, which are covered by a Mediterranean vegetation, on the side of a hill with an elevation between 130 and 390 meters above the sea level.
After centuries of deforestation works made by farmers and shepherds, the remaining green area was saved in 1995 thanks to the naturalistic oasis “Bosco Camerine”, which has been managed since September 1999 by WWF in agreement with the municipality of Albanella.
The flora is characterised by the presence of a holm oak wood (Quercus ilex) mixed with clearings and meadows. Undergrowth and broadleaved plants are typical of the higher areas.
The fauna includes species typical of the Mediterranean Environment like foxes, badgers, weasels, stone martens; grass snakes, Southern newts in the water ponds; jays, cuckoos, goldfinches and European serin among the birds.
