Oasi WWF Ca’ Brigida

Oasi Ca’ Brigida is located in Valle del Marecchia, locality Il Doccio, in the municipality of Verucchio.
It extends for about 16-17 hectares in hilly environments which include forests, cultivated areas, a colonial house next to a park, springs and traces of ancient settlements belonging to the civilisation villanoviana verucchiese.
A visitor centre is present inside the oasis together with a centre of environmental documentation, with its computer, reading and video room, themed exhibitions and museum rooms, recreation room, guesthouse with kitchen, ringing station, the library WWF “Bruno Marabini”, the naturalistic collection and educational laboratory, butterfly garden, where these colourful insects find nourishment, the garden of ancient plants, olive tree grove.
The forests of the reserve are mainly composed of Quercus pubescens, with a high presence of Fraxinus ornus, Ostrya carpinifolia, Robinia pseudoacacia, Viburnum tinus and Sambucus nigra.
A plot of the area has been recently subjected to reforestation activities with broadleaved trees and conifers, particularly scotch pines (Pinus sylvestris). The river vegetation is characterised by poplars (Populus spp.), white willows (Salix alba), Acer campestre.
The local fauna is developed and characterised by red frogs, toads and newts. Among the reptiles, there are whip snakes, Aeaculapian snakes, ringed snakes.
Among the birds, there are flicker woodpeckers, buzzards, kestrels and nocturnal predatory birds like owls, tawny owls and barn owls. Among the mammals, there are foxes, martens, badgers, weasels, porcupines and roe deers.
