Oasi di Marmirolo is located in Bagnolo di Piano, in the province of Reggio Emilia.
It extended itself on a surface of about 8 hectares, surrounded by soils used agricultural use. It is a reservoir created by clay-extraction activities, which caused a complete change of landscape in the past. It was fulled naturally by rainwater, thanks to the tranquility and abandonment of that place, and it transformed into a marshy body of water optimal for the spontaneous colonisation of vegetal and animal species, tropical of wet and flatland areas, such as great white herons, little egrets,
king fishers, hoopoes, common stilts, native turtles and emerald toads.
The presence of huts for the observing of birds and of mandatory routes make the area suitable for observation and exploration activities avoiding to disturb the fauna and vegetation. In the oasis have been recently installed poles for the nesting of storks.
