In the 1970s, a small glass and metal greenhouse was built in the historic Botanical Garden in Pavia, which dates back to 1773.

This structure is now dedicated to the cultivation of tropical orchids of Asian, but also American origins. The New World species include vanilla, Vanilla planifolia, Maxillaria tenuifolia, Maxillaria ferdinandiana, Bifrenaria harrisoniae, Mormolyca ringens, Epidendrum ciliare, and Anacheilium baculus.
Among the Asian species, there is Cypripedium insigne, Coelogyne crostata, Dendrobiumhaoschaopsha and Vanda tricolor.
There is also a species of Australian origin: Dendrobium kingianum.
