Palazzo Boyl is located in the historic centre of Milis (Oristano).
The building was born as a monastery about a thousand years ago. In 1300, it became a noble residence and then it was totally rebuilt in 1600, with the old XIV century structure merged with the new one.

Until the last decades of that century it belonged to the Vacca family, then, after a marriage, it passed to the Marquises Boyl from Piedmont but of Spanish origin and related to the Savoy Royal family. The palace remained their property until 1978. Today, it is owned by the Municipality of Milis.

Over the centuries (in particular in the XIX century), the building has undergone some other transformations involving its current neoclassical appearance, the Pompeian red façade, and the windows decorated with beautiful white frames and cornices.
In the centre, there is a large portal overlooked by a wrought-iron balcony and, much higher, by a belvedere terrace. The façade is completed by a large white clock and four white marble busts representing the four seasons.

Inside, in the large reception rooms on the lower floor, visitors can admire floor mosaics and furnishings that evoke the true wealth and status of the Boyl marquises. Upstairs, there’s the Museum of Sardinian Costume and Jewellery, exhibiting fabrics, clothes and ornaments that span over two centuries. An amphitheatre has been built to host official events in the courtyard.

The building is surrounded by a large English garden created in the XIX century.
