Palazzo Margherita is a historic house built in the first half of the 19th century in Bernarda. The palace is protected by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and it has always been a property of the Margherita family till 2006, when the director Francis Ford Coppola bought it. Nowadays, this place is destined to be a historical residence for touristic purposes, because of its historical, architectural and cultural value. It is possible to find in this place, as certified by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, one of the most beautiful Italian historical garden and park and one of the best preserved regional urban gardens. The garden was built between 1885 and 1892 and it was destined to be an orchard. The young Giuseppe Margherita started in 1925 the transformation of the orchard, which starts in the entrance hall and ends at the end of the principal pathway, where the architectural elements are concentrated. The spaces of the gardens are signed by great trees like Quercus ilex, Pinus pinaster, Cycas revoluta and generic palm trees, which cover all the surface and ensure a continuous dim light. When Francis Ford Coppola bought the residence called a team of experts from the USA, because of the abandonment state of the garden, in order to renovate it with its typical elements (walkways, seats, fence, well). Nowadays, it is a luxury hotel.
