Cantina Petra, or Cantina Moretti, is a wine and oil making company in the municipality of Suvereto (LI), on the ferrous hills of Val di Cornia. Established in 2003 by Vittorio Moretti, the founder of Terra Moretti Group, it was designed by the Swiss architect Mario Botta, and covers some 8.611 square yards inside a vast expanse of vineyards, olive groves and cork oak woods – the “Suvere” area.
In addition to 230 acres of meticulously managed vineyards, Petra boasts a futuristic wine cellar (with a production capacity of 800.000 bottles) perched on the hill: a facility perfectly integrated with the vegetation and the Suvereto vineyards that surround it. The central body of the cellar, cut externally by a staircase, houses the tanks for winemaking and, on the ground floor and underground, ageing barrels are jealously stored.
The company produces four red wines: Ebo, Petra, Quercegobbe, and Zingati, obtained from vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. It also offers Angelo di San Lorenzo wine, originating from rediscovered old wines like Malvasia, Trebbiano, Clarette, and Vermentino: the so-called Tuscan meditation wines.
