Po River Park – Vercelli / Alessandria section

The Po River Park extends from Crescentino (VC) to the confluence of the river with the Scrivia Stream, in a succession of different environments connected by the very waterway.
In its first section, the landscape features hills and paddy fields, while further downstream – from Casale Monferrato – nature becomes wilder: in that very stretch, in fact, the Po River (fed by the waters of Sesia, Tanaro and Scrivia waterways) forms large gravel forests, islands and oxbow lakes – those natural features favour the presence of a rich and varied flora and fauna, including a large number of herons.
The park has become a valuable facility for important research made in collaboration with the Universities of Turin, Alessandria and Pavia – the park rangers collect data and information on the natural environment on a daily basis, such as the quality of the water and the presence of wild animals.
Eight cycling routes have been created inside the park, in collaboration with the Piedmont Region.
This challenging network, which will soon form part of a large cycling route along 146 miles of the river in Piedmont, covers its entire stretch from Vercelli to Alessandria. Along the routes, there are now ten areas equipped for picnics and leisure breaks.
