Quercus virgiliana (Fagaceae)

A castagnara oak is located in a rustic environment where citrus groves prevail. This specimen has a trunk circumference of 7.30 m, a height of 20 m and it is around 500-600 years old.

Its health conditions are good but some branches are broken and needed cures, safeguarding and securing.

It might be a subspecies of downy oaks (Quercus pubescens), its acorns are big, sweet and farmers roast them in order to eat them as if they were chestnuts. Because of this the tree was called castagnara oak
