The botanical park of the Radicepura Foundation is in Giarre, between the slopes of Etna and the Ionian Sea; it covers 12.3 acres and hosts 3000 species with 5000 varieties of plants: bushes, flowers, trees, rare palms, medicinal, and aromatic specimens.
Thanks to the Faro family and Cavalier Venerando Faro, a great botany enthusiast of international fame, visitors can enjoy this vast collection of Mediterranean plants, growing in a typical Sicilian territory of rare beauty.
The park benefits from state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly solutions which have made it energetically and hydrically self-sufficient.
Palazzo della Fondazione Radicepura, the “Palmeto”, is a historical building inside the park used for the production of wine and perfectly integrated with the surrounding landscape, along with the beautiful greenhouse with tropical plants from all latitudes are preserved, including a specimen of Ravenala madagascariensis and a Cyathea australis .
There is a germplasm bank where not only Italian universities can study and multiply the latest plant varieties, here they can be found from Lagunaria patersonii, originally from the island of Lord Howe, to Chamaerops cerifera of the Moroccan highlands, up to Genista aetnensis .
