The Regional Museum of Natural Sciences of Turin is in the same building which houses San Giovanni Battista Hospital, built at the end of the XVII century by Amedeo di Castellamonte.
The Museum preserves and enhances its historical collections, promoting and disseminating discovery, knowledge, interpretation, protection, responsible interaction and enjoyment of nature in all its aspects.

All the available collections, information and research activities are organized in the following different sections of the museum: Botany, Entomology, Mineralogy-Petrography-Geology, Paleontology and Zoology – the total exhibition area stretches over 26.312 square yards.

The museum offers a specialized library with 12.000 books and 1.250 publications as well as an educational centre.

The museum activity began in 1980 with the first exhibitions: “Il Celacanto”, “The Spinola Collection”, and “Quartz crystals”; then, it was the time of the “Lepidoptera” exhibition and “Mamenchi and Tsintao” dedicated to the discovery of the Chinese dinosaurs. The “Amphibia and Lichens”, “Dinosaurios Argentinos” and “Inuit and peoples of the ice” were the further exhibitions added and particularly appreciated by the visitors.
