Riserva Naturale Orientata Parma Morta

Riserva Naturale orientata Parma Morta is located between the mouths’ of the streams Parma and Enza, in the municipality of Mezzani; it was instituted in 1990, it extends for 66 hectares and protects an area of about 5 kilometres of the ancient Parma stream before flowing into the Enza. In 1870 the stream’s deviation caused its flowing into the river Po, creating in the last part the so called Parma Morta, a wet important area which includes typical plants and animals, such as amphibians, reptiles, birds, duckweeds; carice and other plants along the shores and in the vicinities, alder buckthorns and small parts of lowland woods with elms, rustic maples and English oaks.
Nowadays, it is managed by Ente di Gestione per i Parchi e la Biodiversità – Emilia Occidentale
