River Delta Lavender Fields

The lower Polesine area may look like Provence: since 2019, on Donzella Island, in Sacca Scardovari (within the Po River Delta Park), a 5-acre field of lavender has blessed the landscape with its wondrous colours and fragrances every single year. Those plants belong to the farm of Micaela Friso, from Padua, who cultivates lavender with her husband Caludo Masiero, and their son Claudio.
The lavender field is near the naturalistic oasis of Ca’ Mello, among old farmhouses and fishing boat shelters – in June/July it explodes into a sea of pure purple.
Lavender is then cut and distilled, to obtain scented water and essential oils for soaps, creams and perfumes, as well as dried flower compositions and pout-pourri.
