San Martino Alfieri Castle

Located in San Martino Alfieri, in the province of Asti, this XVII century castle is actually a country palace. Erected in 1696 to replace a medieval construction in local Baroque style, it was enriched with an Orangerie – a winter garden made with bricks – decorated with delicate stuccoes by skilled artists from Como, in 1720.
The palace is surrounded by a large English park, designed by Xavier Kurten in 1815: it includes large trees including cedars, beeches, lime trees, a rare Abies pinsapo, a monumental oak, as well as a formal XIX century parterre with box hedges arranged in a fan shape.
The Castle and the park currently belong to the Alfieri family.
