Ferns, ivies, shade plants, ancient and botanical roses.
This nursery-garden is in Santa Marizza, near Varmo, not far from Udine.
The specialty of the nursery are shade plants, such as ivies, ferns, and boxwood, exhibited in a remarkable collection which usually gets bigger and bigger as time goes by.
Another interesting feature of this nursery is the collection of ancient and botanical roses, including “Dr. Van Fleet” ramblers.
In the nursery, the plants are smartly blended with the flowers, or very well positioned on old-fashioned iron structures.
The garden covers about 2.5 acres and is divided into several themed areas: each one of them is named after a different species of plants, like aromatic herbs, Mediterranean plants, perennial herbs, and roses. The flowerbeds in the latter area are enclosed within a low box hedge (Buxus sempervirens).
A pond fed by a spring, enshrined into a small bamboo grove adds a further bucolic touch.
To fully enjoy the surrounding landscape, should get to the large final clearing, delimited by irregular patches of herbaceous and gramineous plants, fitted with several vine pergolas.
