Sentiero Schiappone-San Pancrazio

It is one of the “sentieri della lucertola”, signalled by the municipality of Barano di Ischia, and it starts at Chiesa della Madonna di Montevergine on a hill dominated by the Schiappone and arrives to the Chapel of Saint Pancras which gives the name at the underlying bay (reachable only by sea). From the small and characteristic village with rustic houses the landscape changes to a county side rich in vine yards, orchards, small domestic vegetable gardens, some farm animals and ancient farmhouses covered by ivy. A concrete stair case is placed along the path and it leads to one of the most beautiful Landscapes of Ischia. Two paths start here: one directed to the village of Piano Liguori and the other to Punta San Pancrazio (156 m above the sea level) with the characteristic church overlooking the sea. This path develops on an uphill road in the mountain crag and it is quite long (about 1 hour on foot).
