Inside the Botanical Garden of the University of Siena, built within the city walls 1856, the most representative environments of the spontaneous local flora have been recreated over the 7.4-acre area. Knowledge, conservation and protection of several endangered species are thus thoroughly promoted.
Among those species, there is a very interesting collection of spontaneous orchids, made of 25 species of the genera: Cephalanthera, Dactylorhiza, Himatoglossum, Listera, Limodorum, Ophrys, Orchis, Serapias, and Spiranthes.
