Stornara San Cataldo State Nature Reserve
This post is also available in: Italiano (Italian)
The Stornara Nature Reserve was created in 1977 to protect the coastal forest made of Aleppo pines (Pinus halepensis), a typically Mediterranean conifer capable of withstanding high temperatures and aridity.
These pine forests feature a strong fragrance given off by their shrubs and the uninterrupted chirping of the cicadas which thrive among the beautiful plants. The name “Stornara” comes from many common starlings (“Storni” in Italian) that migrate here in winter.
