Tappeiner Path

Merano is one of the most popular tourist destinations, especially for its Mediterranean climate despite its alpine location. Among its major attractions, there is the Tappeiner Walk, a 2.5-mile path that runs along Monte di Merano (Küchelberg), about 330 ft above the city. The path winds through luxuriant vegetation made of exotic, alpine and Mediterranean plants, offering several panoramic sights.
The vegetation includes Pinus pinea, Pinus cembra, cedars (Cedrus spp.), cork oaks (Quercus suber ), eucalyptus (Eucalyptus spp.), bamboo trees (Bambusa spp.), magnolias (Magnolia spp.), palms, agave (Agave spp.), aloe (Aloe spp.), and Barbary figs (Opuntia ficus-indica).
Along the promenade, there is also a botanical garden, created in 2002, which houses a collection of about 230 different herbs and aromatic plants.
This interesting path, dedicated to Franz Tappeiner (physician, botanist and anthropologist), starts near the parish church of Merano and ends in the Quarazze district.
Ten telescopes point to as many buildings in the city and its surroundings, which are part of more than thirty observation points of the “Focus on architecture” circuit.
