Tedeschi is one of the historical names of the Valpolicella Classica. The company, located in Pedemonte, in the province of Verona, is run by Renzo Tedeschi, along with his wife and children. This family has been involved in winemaking for generations – in fact, they bought their first vineyards in 1630. Two centuries later, in 1824, Nicolò Tedeschi expanded the family properties by promoting and protecting several winemakers who, over time, would make his company incredibly famous.
The vineyards of this property are on a hilly position and some of them are part of the historic crops of the Valpolicella Classica, such as the famous Monte Olmi, which was the very first acknowledged cru.
Tedeschi vineyards benefit from excellent sun exposure and a remarkable temperature range that allow wines to obtain a satisfactory level of sugar and their unique aromatic features.
The most precious autochtonous varieties are Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, Molinara, Dindarella, and Negrara.
Another historic vineyard is Fabriseria, which gives its name to a range of wines which includes the famous Amarone. Furthermore, the purchase of the Maternigo Estate in Valpolicella DOC allowed the company to autonomously manage the whole wine production process. It was in Maternigo that the work of zoning and characterizing all the vineyards began as vital research that’s now part of Valpolicella international success. Knowing the soil and the actual behaviour of the plants in every single portion of the vineyards has made it possible to refine the agronomic management and reduce the environmental impact – as a matter of fact, in Maternigo the cultivation techniques have recently been converted to 100% organic.
