The tenure Drei Donà rises on Romagna’s hills between Forlì, Castrocaro and Predappio: it is located in a strategic position at the outlet of the river valleys Rabbi and Montone, a natural amphitheatre in the heart of the classic area of Sangiovese di Romagna, with South, South-East exposure at an altitude between 110 and 160 above the sea level, around one of the watch towers which Caterina Sforza had built in 1481 to protect her domains.

The tenure, composed of three small farms, Morettina, Valentina and Palazza, has its heart in the last one, which has been owned by the Counts Drei Donà since the beginning of the century has been always dedicated to cultivation and production of Sangiovese. It extends on about 27 hectares, of which 23 are active and productive, where it is possible to find old implantations of ancient grapes, which have been carefully studied and selected in order to identify the best clones for the replanting in vines of the obtained selection, “selezione Palazza”.

The family has always worked respecting nature and the environment, according to sustainability criteria, as its members sustain that the product’s quality cannot disregard the modalities used to interact with the surroundings, trying to operate with sustainable systems.

With the term sustainable agriculture, it is meant a wider concept whose pillars are environment respect and protection of vegetal and animal biodiversity.

The principles of sustainable agriculture have been applied by the family Drei Donà since 1992 in the caring of vine yards, while choices have been taken since 1998 to minimise the effects of the production on the surrounding environment. From 1998 on, it has been reduced the bottles’ weight, which allowed to spare 48000 kg of CO2, while since 2002 have been used recycled packagings  to transport and commercialise the vines. Since 2010, it has been reached the energetic independence thanks to the use of a new photovoltaic implant.
