Teso Forest covers an area of 4.372 acres north of Pistoia and south of the border with the province of Bologna. In particular, it is located south of the municipalities of Pracchia and San Marcello Pistoiese, with a central part in those of Maresca and Orsigna. The altitude ranges between 2.608 ft and 5.682 ft above sea level. This vast area is crossed by paths that run along its slopes with itineraries suggested and managed by the CAI (Italian alpine club) of Pistoia.

The vegetation is rich in tall trees, mainly chestnut, beech and fir specimens. The fauna is abundant, including common foxes, fallow deers, roe deers, wild boars, porcupines, badgers, mouflons, buzzards, wolves and some mustelids.
The forest is a hunting reserve featuring several hiking routes and three carriage roads, one of which leads to a campsite.
