The Four Fountain Path

In Valpolicella there are many fountains and wash houses in the squares, courtyards and city districts. In a land blessed with several springs, a thorough water distribution management proved vital in order to profit from every single drop of this important resource.
The fountains, once a popular gathering place, are embedded within the historical heritage of Valpolicella and today they are a true testament to ancient daily life.
An interesting route, called “the Four Fountain Path”, allows visitors to discover some of those stone fountains which have been recently restored.
The path starts in the square of the hamlet of Gargagnago, where the first fountain is found.
Then, it goes down Via Giare and follows the road to Monteleone, discovering more fountains on the way. Once you’ve reached Vaio, the path will take you through evocative fields of cherry trees and vineyards reaching the Pigni stone capital. The fourth and last fountain can be found
capital of the Pigni; following Strada dei Vaioi, you will eventually reach the fourth and last fountain.
Needless to say, along the whole route, visitors can enjoy some eye-catching panoramas in the famous area where Valpolicella and Amarone DOCG wines are made every year. Any visits should, therefore, end with a wine-tasting experience at one of the numberless wineries scattered all over this area.
