The Garden of the Lost Essences

The Garden of the Lost Essences produces and cultivates geraniums (pelargonium) with fragrant leaves, begonias, perennial herbaceous plants for shading, but above all it is specialized on fuchsias with an impressive collection of over 400 hybrids, varieties and species.
This garden was opened in 2006 by Marta Stegani, a wood sculpture conservator who has always been quite passionate about botany. Her collection has grown bigger year after year, often importing new varieties from Belgium, the UK, and Switzerland. Before putting them on sale, Marta thoroughly tested their actual resistance against the very hot Italian summers in the Po River Valley.
Today, the collection also features several rustic varieties, like the English “hardy” ones which can easily grow even in the open ground. Then, there are several historical specimens obtained before 1914, like the XIX century Lemoine hybrids. Not to mention the sagging varieties to be grown in baskets, the hybrids of Fuchsia microphylla – with very small flowers, and the hybrids of F. triphylla – with an elongated and light corolla. They are all grown naturally, thus guaranteeing top-quality product standards.
