The small horses of Giara di Gesturi / Giara di Gesturi park

Inside Giara di Gesturi Park (see “Giara di Gesturi Park”), live Giara horses, a typical Sardinian variety obtained from a crossbreed between common horses and ponies.
These local animals are some 3.9-ft tall and have perfectly adapted to the local environment, on a plateau rich in nourishment where water is quite scarce in summer and autumn.
They live in the wild, but they’ve never moved to any other part of Sardinia.
Their living environment features the rich Mediterranean scrub, with native botanical species such as holm oaks (Quercus ilex) and cork oak (Quercus suber).
