Trotter park

This is a historic green area of 30 hectares in the Turro district, between Via Padova and Viale Monza. It was named according to its original purpose: the hippodrome of the Trotter company used to have a track and several stables right here, before eventually moving to San Siro district.
The area thus became the property of the Municipality which built a boarding school for children suffering from tuberculosis – “Casa del Sole”, gyms, swimming pools, vegetable gardens, ponds, a farm, and a church. Then, when the tuberculosis epidemic ended, the school became a daytime-only facility, including a kindergarten and primary tutoring – these pavilions are located inside the park which is open to the public, but not during school hours.
There are specific areas for children and two areas for dogs.
The park is rich in 53 tree species out of 172 of the entire Milanese heritage including maples (Acer negundo, A. platanoides, A. pseudoplatanus, A. saccharinum), tulip trees (Liriodendron tulipifera), horse chestnuts (Aesculus hippocastanum), plane trees (Platanus x acerifolia), red oaks (Quercus rubra), swamp Spanish oaks (Quercus palustris), Siberian elms (Ulmus pumila), beeches (Fagus sylvatica), birches (Betula alba), trees of heaven (Ailanthus altissima), lindens (Tilia spp. ), maidenhair trees (Ginkgo biloba), black locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia), bald cypresses (Taxodium distichum), deodar cedars (Cedrus deodara), Lebanon cedars (Cedrus libani), mulberries (Morus alba), staghorn sumacs (Rhus typhina), and sophoras (Sophora japonica).
