Tsatelet Nature Reserve

This 35-acre reserve is included in the municipality of Aosta, at an altitude of 2.362-2.611 ft above sea level.

It is a place of great archaeological and landscape value – of glacial origin – and might have been already inhabited as early as the late Neolithic Period (3000 BC). It dominates the plain of Aosta on a hill and from its summit, a mound of earth can be clearly seen: it should be a tomb from the Salassa Period (Iron Age, VII-V century BC). Due to its elevated position, it is an excellent observation point for birdwatchers, especially during the migration period.

The reserve is equipped with several facilities such as a multipurpose sports field, an area for the popular “palet” game, a play area for children and one for teenagers, an exercise track, toilets, changing rooms, and many pedestrian routes.

BOTANICAL FEATURES

The woodlands are mainly made of downy oaks (Quercus pubescens), and Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris).
