Venica & Venica

On February 6, 1930, Daniele Venica purchased the central part of an estate in Dolegna del Collio, in the province of Gorizia, consisting of a farmhouse and the surrounding vineyards.
Seventy years have passed, with different generations, while true dedication and highly professional winemaking techniques have remained unchanged in perfect harmony with the Collio area.
The company now owns some 92 acres of vineyards on the slopes of artificially terraced hills rising to 1.148-1.246 ft. Each hill has its own exposure and microclimate. The vineyards here are neatly arranged and well-cultivated, interspersed with by small deciduous forests, wooded spots and mixed hedges.
The typical soil, locally called “ponka”, is rocky and is mistakenly considered deprived of elements, while it’s actually rich in minerals that give wine excellent and unique aromatic notes.
The local climate is actually made of some 50 microenvironments influenced by the Mediterranean currents and the cooler ones coming from the Alps; that’s why it is particularly suitable for white berry varieties.
