The gardens of Villa Certosa extend over a 148-acre area, including meadows and woods; they’re located in Costa Smeralda, facing the Gulf of Marinella, in Punta Lada.
Inside the gardens, there are different section housing some important plant collections: the cactus amphitheatre, with 2.100 succulent specimens belonging to 500 different species, the lake of palms, with 1.200 plants and 80 species, the hibiscus museum (Hibiscus spp.), with 5.000 plants and 850 varieties, the Garden of Gethsemane, with its 150 centuries-old olive trees, and even a citrus grove, with 800 plants and 160 different species.
The gardens are protected by the surrounding Mediterranean scrub, which is home to junipers (Juniperus spp.), holm oaks (Quercus ilex), cistus (Cistus spp.) and myrtle (Myrtus spp.) – a perfect microcosm that features the typical species of the Sardinian Mediterranean flora.
