Villa Comunale Gardens

Villa Comunale and its gardens are part of the most important park in the historic centre of Lecce.

Its construction dates back to the late XIX century, while its original name used to be “Villa Garibaldi”, due to its stone bust of the famous Italian general and patriot.
Then, it was named “Villa della Lupa”, due to the presence of some wolves kept in a special enclosure for some time.

The park plan is regular, fenced and with two main entrances (one on Via XXV Luglio) and two secondary ones.

In the central part of the estate, there is a circular aedicule and a vestibule now used as refreshment facilities for the visitors. There is also a small aquarium nearby.
