Villa Mosconi Bertani

Excerpt from “I giardini delle ville venete”, by Camilla Zanarotti, Silvana Editoriale.

Villa Mosconi Bertani is located just a few miles from Verona in a pleasant valley protected from the winds. The complex survives as it appeared after a late seventeenth-century extension that maintained the unity between the patrician buildings and the agricultural production buildings, creating a noble whole.

The grand building is topped by an attic with statues and consists of a main section with two perpendicular wings. In the late eighteenth century, the large gardens were laid out behind the villa. Beautifully positioned within the surrounding countryside, they make use of gentle slopes, gorges and numerous water sources.

On the right lies the brolo, a vineyard (some 12-acre wide) completely surrounded by stone walls – it is one of the largest in the Veneto. On the left, the property is enclosed by gentle hills rich in water sources. Impressive examples of Taxodium disticum grow on a small island in the middle of the lake and are reflected in the water; the lake itself was probably created in the first half of the nineteenth century.
An eclectic style chalet makes a pleasant refuge in this peaceful place.
