Villa Peyrano Oltrona Visconti is in the fraction Albarola di Vigolzone, in Val Nure, about 20 kilometres away from Piacenza. At first, it was a Jesuit nunnery built at the end of the 18th century and it underwent ups and downs during the century, for then being bought by the Peyrano family, one of the most important nobles in Genoa. To improve it, the Peyrano built a majestic rococo staircase, in axe with the entrance alley to the hanging garden.
The garden and the vineyards
The Italian style garden, which is in front of the villa and enclosed by the boundary walls, contains three specimens of monumental cedars (Cedrus@ spp.), a centuries old pear tree (Pyrus spp.) and an enormous yew (@Taxus sylvatica@). Another garden was realised behind the villa and it hosts a collection of roses with more than 150 varieties.
In the vicinities of Poggio della Graziosa, once a dépendance of the nunnery, there is a lake with spring water and surrounded by reeds.
Of the 40 hectares of the prophet, 23 are cultivated with vineyards in order to form an amphitheater around the villa.
The winery produces eight types of wine, among which there are the famous Gutturnio DOC and Ortrugo Doc. It is possible to have a walk between the vines and enjoy a sight of the whole Val Nure, till the Pianura Padana.
The traditional festival Cantine Aperte is organised at the end of May and because of this a gathering of Ferraris takes place.
