Villa Scheibler Park

This 32-acre park is named after the beautiful XVIII century villa which used to be a hunting lodge for Ludovico il Moro, in the XV century. The noble Scheibler family then bought it and built their country abode. The whole estate was finally acquired by the Municipality of Milan in 1927, which built several nurseries.

The park was designed with the typical English style and today we can still identify some of its original features like small hills and an arch built as a viewing frame around the city of Milan in the distance. Then, there’s the small temple and a portal leading to the nearby Villa Caimi garden, with an eye-catching perspective effect.

The park avenues feature long rows of trees of the same species. There are 76 different varieties, including beeches, wild cherry trees, mulberry trees, honey locusts, sequoias, elms, and also some rare specimens like tropical chestnuts, katsura trees, Diospyros lotus L., and a Kentucky coffeetree. The Scheiblers, in fact, used to love many exotic species imported from abroad. All the trees are properly tagged so that visitors can find out more about each species on their own.

In 1979, the Municipality of Milan opened these gardens and, thanks to public funding – such as the “Urban project” – thorough restorations began: the second phase of this project is still in progress. People and neighbours actively contribute to the sheer beauty of this place, organizing many events like gymnastics sessions, and painting courses. Weddings can be celebrated in the beautiful villa, and there are also a children’s playground, some dog areas and sports facilities.
