In 1960, Sergio Zenato took over from his father Silvino managing the winery in San Benedetto di Lugana, a hamlet of Peschiera del Garda. The vineyards actually grow on the banks of the Benaco, that is to say, one of the best production areas of Lugana wine. In just four decades, Zenato has managed to create one of the most important wineries around Verona.

This area features a peculiar soil with glacial moraines mixed with clay in a particularly mild, and almost Mediterranean microclimate – due to the presence of the lake.

Lake Garda is a sort of “heat reservoir”, endowed with a spontaneous balance of different natural forces: atmosphere, water, currents and, above all, the surrounding mountains. The soil is particularly suitable for the cultivation of vines and, in particular, for the Trebbiano di Lugana vine, which Sergio, with his wife Carla, improved and enhanced with dedicated hard work.

Later on, Alberto and Nadia joined the company to help their parents. Alberto mainly deals with the production, while Nadia is the true international ambassador of Zenato wines, promoting the family brand and its outstanding quality on different world markets.
Over the years, Zenato has developed a strong interest in red wines, especially the Valpolicella Classica varieties – coming from the historical wine-growing area not far from Lugana.
Today, the company manga
es some 173 acres divided in two vineyards, that of Fattoria Santa Cristina and the one in Cascina Sansonina.
After studying the terroir, climate and vines of Valpolicella for a long time, it was thus possible to create some state-of-the-art vineyards that offer limited quantities of truly exceptional wine: Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, Valpolicella Classico Superiore, to name a few; not to mention the sumptuous Amarone della Valpolicella.
