Parco Virgiliano

Virgiliano park, also called “parco della Rimembranza”, is a panoramic park in the fraction of Posillipo, Napoles.
It was built during Fascism and it was opened to the public in 1931 witb the name “Parco della Vittoria o della Bellezza”. It was then named remembrance park, to commemorate the fallen of the first world war, and its name began after that Virgiliano park to honour the Latin poet.
It extends on terraces for 92 hectares on the Posillipo promontory, from where it is possible to get a splendid view on the gulf of Naples, the peninsula of Sorrento from Vesuvius to Sorrento, the islands of Capri, Procida, Ischia and Nisida, the coast of Posillipo, Coroglio and the Phlegrean coast from Pozzuoli to Capo Miseno.
Its landscape implant is characterised by a rich vegetation with Mediterranean trees and bushes, such as olive trees, holm oaks, myrtles, durmasts, rosemary and phyllirea. It includes also children’s game areas, bars, kiosks and a sport implant with a football field and a running track.
Some tree rows have been recently cut.
