The Sculpture Park “La Palomba” was created in a used-up tuff cave of Matera, which was transformed in an open-air exhibition of contemporary art thank to the idea of the artist Antonio Paradiso. The geological-cultural environment has been changed since the creation of the park and will continue to evolve, because it is enriched periodically by collective and contemporary exhibitions. These works of art were designed by many artists to allow their integration with the natural environment. The entrance to the park is visible from the road which connects Taranto and Matera and it is highlighted by the automobile crashed by a rock (made by Antonio Paradiso). This and other works in stone and metal, which are often dedicated to the flight of birds and Icarus myth, can be found inside this space of six hectares, which is an ex-Paleolithic site anc Neolithic village with fortified trenches, bottoms of shacks, megalithic well and wall. A gallery hosts permanently works of Nicola Carrino, Pietro Coletta, Luigi Mainolfi, Eliseo Mattiacci, Hidetoshi Nagasawa, Giuseppe Spagnuo, Mauro Staccioli.
