Marsaglia Park

Marsaglia Park is one of the most beautiful gardens in Sanremo, previously owned by the well-known Marsaglia family, belonging to Sanremo upper-middle class.
The garden used to surround their prestigious residence. The building was a most striking one, with towers, battlements and neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance motifs, while inside it was enriched with true masterpieces by renowned artists of the time. After the war, the “castle” was completely destroyed and the local municipality took care of the remaining garden. The latter offers pleasant wide walkways, with wondrous panoramas and some quite remarkable vegetation. There are, for instance, many rare specimens adding a tropical forest charm, along with ponds, waterfalls and the excellent Franco Alfano auditorium usually hosting many shows in the summer.

The flora of the garden is made of several species, the most typical one being palm trees, like the ones that Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna donated in large numbers to the city of Sanremo, to decorate the very walkway dedicated to her.

After the main gate, visitors can immediately see lush vegetation of the park, starting with a specimen of Encephalartos altensteinii, and then continue towards elegant palm trees such as the Syagrus romanzoffiana, typical of Brazil, the Howea forsteriana, the mammoth Jubea chilensis, giant of Chile. Then again, the Chamaerops humilis, Cycas revoluta, Araucaria spp., Oreopanax spp., Livistona australis, Dracaena draco, Sabal minor, and Dasylirion spp.
