Villa Marigola, home of the Carispezia Congress Center – Cariparma Crédit Agricole Group, is a place of peculiar charm. In fact, it offers many beautiful sights, a mesmerizing collection of plants, the very fragrance of the Mediterranean scrub, and a lovely sea breeze. Most undoubtedly, is one of the best examples of a “villa by the sea” which has enthralled thousands of visitors for more than two centuries.
The original building, an XVIII century structure, used to be the holiday residence of the Marquis Ollandini.
The large terrace was the true heart of the building: it hosted, the typical magnificent “citrus garden”, a collection of cedar trees, lemons, chinotto fruits, and oranges bound to mesmerize any visitors.
The park was originally cultivated with olive trees and vines, all the way to the beach; right there, there was the famous “white house”, celebrated by the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who also used to stay there.
In the mid-nineteenth century, romantic and decadent European culture inspired further modifications to this place. The Mediterranean scrub became gentler and refined, while balconies and natural windows on the Gulf of Lerici, the castle, and the nearby islands were added. The result proved absolutely amazing.
This villa is still used for meetings and conferences held by the Great Italian Gardens association.
