Giardini del Casoncello

Casoncello gardens are the result of the passion of their owner Gabriella Buccioli, who starting from  1980 transformed the family’s small farm, which had been abandoned for years, into a special place where grow more than 400 species: common, rare, local, ornamental and exotic.
The gardens, which were opened to the public in 1996, cover a hectare of surface and develop in more spaces: a mixed lawn, the vegetable garden, the wood-garden, the herb garden, the orchard, the mixed hedges, the borders of perennial herbaceous, the white garden, the yellow garden, the clearing of blue plums, cornel trees’ clearing, cherry trees’ clearing, fireflies’ clearing, “giardino di frescura”, elders’ clearing, a water zone and a rocky garden d’acqua, “giardino dell’aia”, which is characterised  by great philadelphians, Mediterranean plants’ garden, with cistus, Phlomis and other unusual species of the Apennines.
The plants have mainly an informal collocation, are left free to grow and are a shelter of many small animals. There are mainly flowery bushes like philadelphians, spiraeas, botanical and ancient roses and lilacs. The guided tours take place during Spring and Autumn and propose a multi-sensorial approach to the garden: visual, tactile and olfactory.
