It is an interesting walk, whose duration is of two hours, of naturalistic, historic-testimonial, landscape character. It starts from the municipal road of the Vighini, between the localities Carlinetti and Vighini, in the fraction of Pontolo. The group of Vighini houses presents important characteristics of historic and architectural value, since it is an ancient nucleus which was already mentioned in writings of the 1300. The path of the chestnut tree goes through wide lawns and pastures with fruit majestic chestnut tree woods (Castanea sativa), which were the principal food source of mountain dwellers.
From the council road, the path enters the forest and then it flanks an abandoned fruit chestnut tree wood to reach Prato dell’Orsaresso, and follow on to the chestnut tree wood both for fruit and for coppice, crossing Rio Orsaresso, whose waters are feeding the peat bog by the same name, and arrives to the reforestation of red, white firs and Douglas firs from Piana della Ghierma. Here, it crosses Prato Zuccone, which is what remains of an ancient, nearly underground peat bog.
From here on, the path continues to flank the fir wood till crossing rio del Burallo and other streams, then it reaches the farmsteads of Pian del Lago, at 770 m of altitude. They are more recent compared to Vighini, their roof is made of rye straw and architraves from chestnut trees. From Pian del Lago the path goes back towards Comunalia till reaching the Northern part of Prato di Orsaresso, then it proceeds till Carlinetti, just below the starting point.
