Parco Giorgio Bassani, dedicated to the writer by the same name, is between the city of Ferrara and river Po; it occupies the ancient territory of Barco, once destined to the hunting activities of the Este family. It was considered a place of entertainment and relaxation,  and also an extent Jon of the defensive system of the boundary walls of Addizione Erculea.
It extends for 1.200 hectares and it hosts a system with green area equipped for free time and recreation activities, such as sport and registered offices, for example CUS (Centro Universitario Sportivo), the council swimming pool, the Golf Club.
Along the boundary walls, cycle paths have been created together with protected walkable ways.
The park hosts numerous manifestations such as Ferrara Balloons Festival, an event with hot air balloons of all types and different kinds of entertainments which include aerostatic, sport, cultural manifestations and shows, meetings and animation, Festival Internazionale degli Aquiloni – Vulandra takes place here, it is dedicated to professionals, amateurs and kite lovers.
