Raetia Alpine Biodiversity, owned by Patrizio Mazzucchelli and Greta Roganti, is in Teglio (Valtellina), 2.2624 ft above sea level. It is specialized in the cultivation of traditional alpine cereals, autochthonous buckwheat, and autochthonous rye (both under the protection of the Swiss “Pro Specie Rara” Foundation), without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers (Raetia is fully certified by the ICEA Organic Farm). Alpine barley and mountain wheat are also cultivated to produce produces flours and cereals in grains, seeds for vegetable gardens, and ancient potatoes mainly coming from the Swiss “Pro Specie Rara” Foundation and from its own continuous search for new seeds and knowledge.

The company’s main activities are based on the protection of Alpine agro-biodiversity and culture. Raetia is part of the Slow Food Buckwheat Presidium of Valtellina and it has been certified for its active conservation of vegetable gardens and crops threatened by extinction (such certification, issued on yearly basis, has been awarded to Raetia since 2011 by the Swiss “Pro Specie Rara” Foundation).

Since 2014, Raetia is also a member of “Pro Patrimonio Montano”, the International Alpine Association that deals with the research and recovery of European alpine and mountain agro-biodiversities; in Valtellina, it has promoted the recovery of “Ciuta” sheep (introducing 11 batches of specimens), and the Black Pig of the Alps.
