Michele Satta Winery

This winemaking company was founded in 1983, the year preceding the foundation of “Bolgheri D.O.C.” (“Bolgheri Controlled Denomination of Origin”). that identifies an area with soils overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and surrounded by the hills, just like a theatre audience looking at the stage.
The family-run company, which covers some 57 acres, currently produces 150,000 bottles made entirely from home-grown grapes. The vines now in production were planted by Michele Satta in the 1990s. In each vineyard, there are cultivars that Michele has painstakingly selected after years of research and thorough evaluations – they’re the most representative of “Bolgheri D.O.C.”.
The soils feature a medium texture, they’re slightly sandy and located close to the hills of Castagneto Carducci and Torre di Donoratico. This particular location retains a remarkable quantity of water in the soil during the hottest months since the hills collect all the spring/summer rain eventually releasing it into the Bolgheri plain. Even in case of particularly dry years or extended droughts, there is no water shortage for the crops.
The soils are therefore extremely fertile and the plants are capable of a full vegetative process, which has to be often controlled by appropriate agronomic techniques.
