This facility, also known as the Botanical Garden of the University of Urbino, was created in 1809 by the botanist Giovanni de Brignoli, in what used to be the large garden of the convent of San Francesco. Today, it is annexed to the Faculty of Mathematical, Chemical, Physical and Natural Sciences and covers about 2.632 square yards of a sloping area, divided into three terraces that house 2.300 plant species.

The first terrace is partly occupied by an arboretum, which includes 112 tree varieties, some of them of remarkable size, like holm oaks (Quercus ilex), maples (Acer pseudo-platanus), ashes (Fraxinus excelsior pendula), yews (Taxus baccata), tulip trees (Liriodendron tulipifera), beeches (Fagus silvatica), Acer pseudoplatanus, Sophora japonica, and Ailanthus glandulosa.

In the centre, there is also a large greenhouse for delicate plants, including a small collection of succulent species placed above the surrounding wall of the Garden in the summer.
The second and third terraces are divided into several narrow flower beds, with very interesting herbaceous plants. In the garden, there are two other small greenhouses, two ponds with aquatic species, and a sector dedicated to local officinal and aromatic plants.
